Reiki Healing

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese energy healing practice based on the idea that a universal life-force energy flows through all living beings.

Originating in Japan (1920s) Reiki was developed by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk and spiritual teacher, following a 21-day meditation retreat on Mount Kurama in 1922. During this retreat, he reportedly experienced a moment of deep spiritual awakening in which the knowledge and ability to heal using life-force energy was revealed to him. He went on to develop a formal system, founding a healing society called the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai in Tokyo.

The word itself is a combination of two Japanese words: Rei (universal or spiritual wisdom) and Ki (life energy, equivalent to Chi in Chinese medicine or Prana in Ayurvedic tradition). When this energy is blocked or depleted, practitioners believe illness, stress, and emotional imbalance can arise. Reiki aims to restore its flow.

It is considered a complementary or holistic therapy — most practitioners and recipients use it alongside conventional medicine, not as a replacement for it.

How it works (the theory)

Reiki is founded on the concept that the body has an energy field (the biofield) that can become stagnant or unbalanced due to stress, trauma, illness, or negative emotions. Practitioners believe they act as a conduit for universal life-force energy, channelling it through their hands into the recipient's body to clear energy blockages, rebalance the chakras (energy centres in the body), promote the body's natural ability to heal itself and calm the nervous system

What to expect during a Reiki Session

Each session is unique to the individual but you can expect deep relaxation, often compared to the sensation just before falling asleep, a feeling of warmth, tingling, or pulsing sensations from the practitioner's hands, a sense of emotional release (some people feel moved to tears without knowing why), either heaviness in the limbs, or conversely a feeling of lightness and vivid imagery, colours, or the recollection of memories arising

Benefits of Reiki Healing

Client Testimonials

I had been struggling with excessive pain in the lower back area for a number of weeks, where I was able to walk with ease, but unable to sit down correctly, but worse still, I suffered exceptional pain when trying to get up from a seated position. These ailments in turn had created pain in my right chest area and right-hand side neck and shoulder. The pain of the lower back, chest and shoulder had left me with a low mood over recent weeks.

As treatment started, I began to relax and after a few minutes I began to feel like I was floating on air. I felt light. I drifted off into a place of calm and just remember Dave advising me to come around slowly and in my own time.

I felt very relaxed and wasn't holding myself as awkward and that the pain in my neck and shoulder had disappeared. I found the session very beneficial.
